I devoured this book. The voice of the main character feels so relatable and real. Firefighter, Cassie Hanwell’s world is turned upside down when her almost estranged mother asks her to move across the country to help her as she is going blind. Bring the only female firefighter in this new town, brings some hilarity, as well as cringe worthy moments. The handsome rookie starts the same day as her, and her resolve to follow the advice of her previous caption (don’t date firefighters) begins to slip. Why is this an issue? Because being a firefighter means everything to her! This book made me think about love, courage, and things I would save in a fire.
I read this book for a book club. We agreed that this was a feel good book. I look forward to reading more by the author Katherine Center
A thrilling read beginning to end. Bodie Thoene’s prose is captivating! I am also learning so much about history, and what happened in Europe that led up to World War 2. Also, this book really highlights the power of apathy, and how it leads to such terrible outcomes. It’s the third book in the series, following Elisa, a musician, who is also Jewish, but adopted an Aryan stage name. The books leading up to this one deal with the Jewish underground, Hitler’s forces taking over Vienna and Austria. This one begins in Czechoslovakia, where she has just escaped with a boy with a cleft palate, whom the Germans had tried to exterminate. His twin brother escaped elsewhere with Leah, another musician and best friend of Elisa. A good portion of this book also focuses on a boat of Jewish refugees refused asylum by so many countries.
This is Book 3 of the Zion Covenant Series
This book was wonderful because it talked about how stories are essential to human beings, and how to then use story telling as a business owner. As a creative writer, it really resonated with me. Looking forward to try to implement some of what I learned from this book.
